The VGMTP board of studies met on the 28th of March 2024.

  • Board of Studies will produce a news bulletin following each meeting. It will be distributed to Directors of Geriatric Medicine of participating health services, together with the site training coordinators. You are welcome to distribute the bulletin to other geriatricians within your health service. The bulletins will also be posted on the VGMTP website.
  • We start the year with 131 advanced trainees and 10 other trainees and welcome three new health services into VGMTP: Royal Hobart Hospital, Mercy Hospital Werribee and the Goulburn Valley Hospital in Shepparton.
  • VGMTP offers a range of teaching including over Zoom, face-to-face meetings, and on-line education.
  • Rohan Wee has been appointed as Co-director of VGMTP and will assume the role of Director of VGMTP when Benny Katz retires.
  • Rohan will step down as Director of Training of the Northern Alliance. The position will be advertised.
  • Linda Appiah-Kubi has been appointed as VGMTP Lead in Communication Skills, replacing Jenny Schwarz who filled this role for the past 7 years.
  • The Centralised Match for full-time Advanced Training positions in 2025 will open on 10th July 2024. This year it will be a single match for both new and continuing trainees. Interviews may be held between 30th July and 15th August. The match results will be published on 28th August 2024. For more information visit the Centralised Match page.
  • Part-time and part year trainees may be appointed outside the match. Other positions should go through the match.
  • There has been ongoing discussions with the Department of Health regarding the establishment of a fourth VGMTP training alliance focusing on regional Victoria. We do not anticipate that this will be successful until the Victorian  budget is in a better state.
